CBPP Dean Karen Markel departing СÓÅÊÓƵA next summer

Karen Markel, dean of the СÓÅÊÓƵA College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP), has accepted a job as dean of the College of Business at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. She will complete the academic year at СÓÅÊÓƵA and begin her new post in Colorado on July 6, 2020.

"СÓÅÊÓƵA is an amazing place, with so much opportunity. I made a home here and had not planned to leave, but the fiscal uncertainty of last summer and the messages of potential consolidation of Alaska's public universities under one accreditation made it necessary for me to seek new professional opportunities," Dean Markel said. "I have great respect for the leadership at СÓÅÊÓƵA and my colleagues who will continue to make it an important institution in our community."

СÓÅÊÓƵA Chancellor Cathy Sandeen will announce interim leadership of CBPP this spring, along with plans for a national search for the next dean.

"Please join me in wishing Dr. Markel well on her new role," said Sandeen. "I am grateful for her service to СÓÅÊÓƵA and for her contributions to making СÓÅÊÓƵA a world-class university."
